TRANS*MUTATION
Performance • 2023
I: Arrival
II: Ascention
III: Transformation
In collaboration with Luna Duran and Karada House, Trans*Mutation was presented as a hook suspension performance during the grand opening in August 2023. Set within a space that once functioned as a consecrated church and has since been reimagined as a haven for queer and kinky expression, the work unfolds as a spatial, physical, and symbolic transformation.
The performance is divided into three distinct yet interconnected excerpts, conceived as a triptych. Each part guides the viewer through different states of suspension, tension, and release, allowing the architecture and its ecclesiastical history to actively shape the experience. The suspended body becomes a living threshold—held between devotion and defiance, pain and transcendence.
Drawing on the religious past of the space, Trans*Mutation reclaims rituals of elevation and sacrifice through a trans and queer lens. Across the three excerpts, the work articulates a narrative of becoming: self-acceptance, reclamation, and transformation in resistance to structures historically rooted in rigidity and judgment. The performance marks both the rebirth of Karada House and the ongoing mutation of the body as site, subject, and agency.
